Our Alcohol & Drug program was
designed to help individuals suffering from Alcohol & Drug addiction. This
program is an intensive outpatient program to help individuals become free from
this insidious disease. We are here to provide services for individuals to gain
knowledge about this disease and to establish credibility in their community
(e.g., find employment, school, clear record, etc.). We are here to help
individuals clear their record and have a Fresh
Start in their life.
Here are some statistics…
- Drug addiction involves compulsive
seeking to use an addictive substance, regardless of the potentially negative
social, psychological, and physical consequences.
- An estimated 19.5 million Americans use illicit drugs; and according to National Drug Control Policy Director,
John Walters, 3.6 million of these Americans
are teenagers.
- While not everyone who uses drugs
becomes addicted, many people do.
- As many as 19,000 people die of drug-related causes each year.
- Children who are drinking alcohol by 7th
grade are more likely to report academic problems, substance use, and
delinquent behavior in both middle school and high school.
- By young adulthood, early alcohol use
was associated with employment problems, other substance abuse, and criminal
and/or other violent behavior.
What causes Alcohol & Drug
addiction?
People use drugs for many reasons, some reasons are as such:
- Curiosity and/or
experimentation
- Peer pressure or the
desire to be part of a social group
- A sense of
relaxation and/or pleasurable euphoria
- Numbing effect
that helps ease physical or emotional pain
- Cultural normality
It is not likely that anyone begins
using a drug with the intention of becoming addicted. However, the very qualities
that lead an individual to use are in themselves addictive. Additionally, the consequences
of addiction will result in painful withdrawal symptoms when stopped suddenly (“cold turkey”), which then provides the individual
with another incentive to continue using.
